Veterans Service Officers (VSO's) provide eligible veterans and their dependents with assistance on applications and claims for both federal and state veteran's benefits through agencies including the Veterans Administration, Social Security, Railroad Retirement, and Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs.
Federal benefits include compensation, pension, medical benefits, widow's and family benefits, claims-burial benefits, education, home loans and life insurance and social security benefits.
State benefits include financial aid, emergency medical assistance, dental and optical assistance, clothing allowance, Minnesota National Guard tuition reimbursement program, burial at Camp Ripley State Veterans Cemetery, and Minnesota veterans nursing homes.
The VSO office provides and coordinates transportation for veterans with appointments at the VA Medical Centers in Fargo, St Cloud, and Minneapolis and can assist veterans in scheduling and rescheduling appointments at those medical centers.
Any questions can be answered by your local Veterans Service Officer.   Recently discharged veterans should take a copy of their (DD-214) Military Separation Paper to the Veterans Service Officer to have it permanently recorded.  Following is a list of Veterans Service Officers for the State of Minnesota.
