JOB SERVICE EMPLOYER COMMITTEE

What is it?

The Job Service Employer Committee is composed of employer representatives who volunteer to serve as advisors to the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development and liaisons within the employer community. These committees are established on the local level so that services can be adapted to meet the specific needs of the community.

Who Serves on JSEC?

The employer committee is composed of a cross section of the community with representatives from large and small firms, firms representing all types of businesses and industries, both users and non-users of our services, and, employers interested in maximizing the use of their tax dollars.

How does it work?

Job Service Employer Committee members work directly with local Workforce Center management and staff to help identify employment and informational needs of the employer/applicant community and design and initiate action in response to these needs.

Objectives and goals of JSEC:

  • Provide a means of formal communication with Workforce Center and the employer community.
  • Increase awareness and effective use of Workforce Center programs and services.
  • Improve capability of Workforce Center to service employers and applicants.
  • Design and implement awareness programs to meet business and community needs.

What's in it for you?

Benefits to the employer are both immediate and long-range:

  • More personalized and better quality service (improved quality of job applicants, rapid filling of job vacancies, assistance with applicant testing, labor market information and worker training programs).
  • Business input into government to better serve the community.
  • Lower unemployment compensation costs due to rapid placement of jobless workers and better understanding of how to avoid unwarranted unemployment compensation costs.
  • A nonpartisan, nonpolitical forum for voicing the business view on vital issues affecting your pocket book.

How can you get involved?

First of all, make sure your own company or business is taking full advantage of all services provided by the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development. Remember, your unemployment compensation (FUTA) taxes pay for these services.

Next, contact Gordy Peterson, Job Service Manager, (218-723-4754) and ask about getting involved in the local JSEC program.
