NETWORKING Now it’s time to tell people about these strengths and ask if they know of any job openings - this is called networking. Networking is simply the sharing of information and resources with others. Job search networking is a targeted effort to talk with people about your job search. You can gather information, ideas, and suggestions from your job search network. It is a good idea to come up with a list of people you can contact to help you with your job search. Look over list below and jot down on a piece of paper a couple names from each category. Be sure to write their phone numbers down too!
Contact these people on your list. Tell them you are looking for a job and describe your strengths and skills from above. Ask if they know of any job openings or if they have any suggestions of places to look into. Be sure to write down the information while you are talking to them. Do one of your parents or relatives know of a job? Do friends of you parents know of any available positions? Does a friend have previous experience at a company and he or she could recommend you for the job there. **Remember to give each of these people your phone number where you can be reached in case something comes up and thank them for their help.** |
