Dakota-Scott Youth Council has oversight of youth programs funded through the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) and the Minnesota Youth Program (MYP).  These programs serve low-income young people, age 14-21, in Dakota & Scott Counties who are at risk of being unemployed or underemployed because of  poor school performance, substance abuse, pregnancy or parenting, or because they are offenders, receiving foster care, or are homeless or a runaway.  If you know a young person who is at risk of school failure and/or faces potential unemployment or underemployment, please call us in Dakota County at 651-554-5972 and in Scott County at 952-496-8686.

Services to youth include comprehensive assessment, an individual service strategy and help achieving stated goals. Youth work one on one with a professional counselor who offers connections to educational and employment resources and opportunities.  Some group activities are available, but emphasis is always on personal service tailored to individual needs.

WIA services are year round and provided through Tree Trust in Dakota County and through Scott County Employment and Training in Scott County.  MYP services focus on summer employment with an educational component and are also offered Tree Trust in Dakota County and through Scott County Employment and Training in Scott County.

Thanks to the hard work of our staff and contracted providers, program youth can get help with school, help with job attainment and retention, leadership opportunities through a variety of service organizations, skill development and support services.

The Youth Council believes it is important to provide employment services to all youth, no matter what level of family income or academic history. All young people are encouraged to make use of The Zone at the Minnesota Workforce Centers in Dakota County.  On site or on-line, youth will find hundreds of links and suggestions for their future planning. Many WorkForce Center events are open to all young people, too, Job Fairs and workshops, to name just a few.

Contact us in Dakota County by phone 651-554-5972, in Scott County at 952-496-8686 or on-line with all your questions.
