Resumes and Cover Letters - Mondays 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
"Would you like to complete the draft of your "starter" resume or update an old resume that penetrates the "hidden" job market?" This course features resume strategies, formats, do's and don'ts, and samples. You will also learn how to write simple and effective cover letters. A good cover letter introduces you and your resume and is a very important piece of the job search process. Recommended prerequisites: an old resume or complete work and education history, a copy of a job posting, copies of three job descriptions and transferable skills list from ACINET or attend a skills workshop.

Skills Identification: The Foundation for a Successful Job Search - 1st Thursday, 9:00 a.m. -11:00 a.m.
This workshop is a "hands on" approach to help you identify your skills. You will be able to identify your best skills and learn how to communicate them to a potential employer; and be more successful in your job search. This workshop will also help you define which words to use in developing the "skills block" of the MinnesotaWorks. Bring your Creative Job Search Book.

The Hidden Job Market - Where the Jobs Are - 4th Thursday, 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
The Hidden Job Market is today's "best kept secret." If you are willing to take a chance and contact employers directly from your own personally written list of job leads, then you may be more successful in cracking that "Hidden" market. This workshop will explain what the hidden job market is and it will help you create a customized list of your own "Hidden Job Market" of employers who might have the right job for you. Suggestion: attend a skills workshop or do some employment planning and be prepared to list at least two jobs that you want to do, when you attend this workshop.

Job Applications: An Employer's First Look at You - 1st & 3rd Fridays, 9:00 a.m. -11:00 a.m.
Job Applications are a critical tool in the selection process. It is often the first look at the job seeker that an employer will have. This workshop will cover how an employer may use an application as a screening tool. Information will be provided about Civil Service applications. Since applications come in several different sizes and shapes, there are some basic guidelines that apply to all. Let us help you complete a personal data sheet for use when you are filling out job applications. If you’d like, bring a job application to the workshop and have it critiqued

How can you improve your interviewing effectiveness so you stand out from the competition? This workshop will provide you with the skills to interview with confidence and land that job. Through practice you will become more effective in answering difficult questions from "Why should I hire you?" to "What are your salary requirements?" Bring your Creative Job Search Book.
