The Minnesota WorkForce Center - Anoka County
 provides specific job placement services to military veterans.

Vets

To qualify for services you must meet the following definition and be registered with your Minnesota WorkForce Center. The term "Eligible Veteran" means a person who:

  • Served more than 180 consecutive days on active duty and was discharged or released with other than a dishonorable discharge (not for Reserve or National Guard Training).
  • Served on active duty and released because of a service connected disability, illness or injury (does not have to meet the 181-day rule).
  • Was a member of a reserve component under an order to active duty pursuant to Section 672 (a), (d) or (g), or 673b ot title 10, served on active duty during a period of war or in a campaign or expedition for which a campaign badge is authorized and was discharged or released from such duty with an other than dishonorable discharge. (Examples are Panama, Grenada, Beirut, Persian Gulf, Desert Shield or Desert Storm. You do not have to have served in those areas, just during that period.)
  • Is any other "Eligible Person" - eligible meaning the spouse of any Veteran living or deceased who qualifies for benefits under Title 38 of the United States Code, Chapter 41, paragraph 4101, section 5.
 
Veterans Employment Representatives can provide Veterans with:
  • In-person orientation to WorkForce Center programs and procedures.
  • Information on how to apply for Federal, State and County positions.
  • Direct referral to job openings.
  • Job search information, resume assistance, cover letters, job search videos, etc.
  • Information and referral to appropriate agencies and services.
  • Eligibility determination for special programs and services to employ/train veterans.
  • Information on veterans employment benefits, rights, and preferences.
  • Case management and employment assistance for Chapter 31 disabled veterans.
  • Instruction and training on use of the internet for job searches.

Selective Service
Effective
December 2, 1998
Men 18 through 25 are now able to register for the Selective Service online. Registration can now be through the internet, instead of signing up at the Post Office and waiting for a confirmation card that can take up to a month or more. Registration through the Selective Service internet site will give a person an instantaneous Selective Service number.
