Do you need help finding job openings, in your job search strategies, or in your career planning? The Albert Lea WorkForce Center has the services you need to assist you in achieving your goals.  Visit the WorkForce Center for a personally guided orientation of these and other job seeker services.

SEARCH FOR JOBS  Utilize the MinnesotaWorks.net to search for local or statewide employment opportunities that employers have listed. Local Employment Agencies along with State and Federal government job links can be an excellent resource tool.

RESOURCE CENTER  Our WorkForce Center features a user-friendly Resource Center that can act as your personal office. You can create your resume and cover letters on a personal computer, research career information, utilize Internet, or browse the library of job search/career exploration publications and reference directories. You can also access an Employer Database which gives information on Minnesota employers. With the job search computers, you can access thousands of job openings nationwide. The phone, fax machines and copier are available for your job search needs.   In the Resource Center you will find:

 

Job Listings:  Access job listings on the job search computers or on-line at MinnesotaWorks.net along with a variety of other job search related bookmarks.

 

Resume Builders:  Create and post your resume on the MinnesotaWorks.net to market your knowledge, skills, and abilities to thousands of registered employers - FREE of charge!  Employers can review your qualifications in relationship to their job openings, and if interested, employers will contact you directly!  WinWay Resume software program is also available to help you build your resume.  Word processing programs such as MS Word  can be used for cover letters and resume writing.  Take advantage of the laser jet printers.  Our Resource Center staff are there to assist and coach users.

 

Career Research:  The Minnesota Career Information System (MCIS), a web-based career-planning tool, is available on Resource Center computers.  Customers can use MCIS to find all kinds of information about careers and education programs, including assessments to find career options for specific skills and interests.  Users can create a portfolio to store results of assessments and other information.   ISEEK Minnesota's Internet System for Education and Employment Knowledge was created to help you make smart choices about careers, employment, education, and training.  It does this by providing information in four main areas:  Career planning, Education and training, Job search and Business growth.

 

Library Materials:  Access vocational biographies, job search and career materials, labor market information, community resources, postsecondary school catalogs, financial aid information, and more!

 

Keyboarding:  Learn the keyboard or increase your typing speed with a Typing Tutorial program.

 

Keyboarding Test:  Employers use tests to help them distinguish people who are likely to do well in a particular job from those who are unlikely to do well.  If the job you are seeking involves a technical skill like typing, data entry, or word processing you can demonstrate your ability by taking a standardized keyboard test at the WorkForce Center.  Call ahead for an appointment.

 

VETERANS SERVICES  Minnesota Veterans Programs have a variety of services designed to assist veterans in searching for employment.  If you are a military veteran, please ask to speak to a Veterans Employment Representative located at a WorkForce Center nearest you.

 

REHABILITATION SERVICES  Rehabilitation Services works with individuals who have disabilities, providing a variety of services. The services include but are not limited to: vocational planning, employment information and referral service. CIVIL SERVICE OPENINGS  Access Minnesota and Federal government listings.  Minnesota Merit System,

U.S. Post Office, College and University, and selected county and city hiring websites.

 

UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE  This is the home page for unemployment insurance.  It contains information on how to apply including applicant and employer assistance.

 

DISLOCATED WORKER PROGRAM  Retraining and Readjustment services assist those who are unemployed or facing layoffs due to business or plant closings, workforce cuts or technological changes rendering their skills unmarketable. All services are offered FREE of charge.

 

MIGRANT AND SEASONAL FARMWORKER PROGRAM  The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development offers a Migrant and Seasonal Farmworker (MSFW) Program in designated WorkForce Centers. This program specializes in providing assistance to job seekers seeking to obtain work in agricultural and non-agricultural employment and to employers looking for these job seekers.  Contact Steve Bauer at the Albert Lea WorkForce Center (507) 379-3409.

 

YOUTH SERVICES  A variety of youth employment and training program services are administered by SE Minnesota Workforce Development, Inc. Youth can participate in activities including subsidized employment, personal or career mentoring, computer enrichment, GED preparation and college based training.
